My first World Championship boxing match as a ring announcer – a dream comes true
You know me as a sports enthusiast and if you follow my news a little, then you also know that I have a soft spot for boxing. I have been a ring announcer since 2017, and in 2020 I started working with AGON. On Saturday evening, a long-held dream came true for me.
At the AGON Boxing Gala in Wuppertal, I had the honor of being the ring announcer for a world title fight for the first time – and not just once, but twice.

Crackling tension in the Wuppertal Unihalle
The Unihalle in Wuppertal was well filled with over 1000 spectators. Seven fights were on the program. The highlight of the evening were the world championship fights in the middleweight class, once for the IBF world association and once for the IBO.

IBO fight: Oliha vs. Alamos
The IBO middleweight title was vacant. The Italian Etinosa Oliha and the Chilean Julio Alamos were two boxers who had previously won all of their professional fights. In the end, Oliha was the unanimous winner on points and was crowned world champion – the first world champion from the AGON boxing stable.

The IBF title goes to a local hero
The spectators eagerly awaited the final fight because a local hero, Vincenzo Gualtieri, who learned boxing at ASV Wuppertal, was competing against the dangerous Brazilian Esquiva Falcao. Both boxers also had a flawless professional record without a defeat. The spectators got their money’s worth because the fight went the full distance. The German was able to knock his opponent down twice. Although there was no knockout victory, the world title was fully deserved. Thus, the second world title followed for AGON within an hour.
Wanting more
The boxing evening definitely whetted my appetite for more world championship flair. I perceived the atmosphere and the tension at the world championship fights as much more intense than usual.
